    AWC History. The Air War College turned fifty years old in 1997. At that time, Dr. James “Doc” Mowbray, wrote the below essay to commemorate that milestone in our history. Doc served as a Professor of Aerospace Doctrine and Strategy at the AWC from April 1986 to September 2015. He dedicated his life to professional military education.
