Overview. In 2008, Macross' commemorative work for its 25th anniversary, Macross Frontier, proved to be both a critical and financial smash hit. A re-evaluation of the series proceeded and in 2009, it was decided to produce a serialized manga retelling of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series that would incorporate elements from later entries in the series.
