Vasan died in Madras on 26 August 1969, at the age of 65. Vasan was an accomplished writer and translator and a hugely successful journalist. As a director, Vasan was known for his grandiose sets and innovative techniques that he introduced. Film historian Randor Guy hailed Vasan as the “Cecil B. De Mille of India”.
He appointed Kalki as the sub-editor of the magazine. Kalki’s writing brought great value to the magazine. Vasan started writing a series titled ‘Sathileelavathi’. He also organised crossword contests and rewarded the winners. The ‘Sathileelavathi’ series was later made into a film, and this brought great fame to Vasan’s name.
Early history. S.S.Vasan bought from his friend K. Subramanyam a Film distribution business Motion Picture Producers' Combines studio on Mount Road for Rs.86,427-11-9,the odd figure arrived at through including the interest on unpaid wages of the employees and it was renamed as Gemini Studios in the year 1940.
