Early years. Manhattan Municipal Building, WNYC's home from 1924 to 2008. WNYC began as WNYC (AM), one of the oldest radio stations in New York. Funds for the establishment of the station were approved on June 2, 1922, by the New York City Board of Estimate and Apportionment.
