  1. Mar 10, 2005 · Since my research is leading me toward elite units (mostly airborne) that were deployed in critical engagements and thus suffering very high casualties, the title heading for Italian forces will be 'Avanti Folgore!' particularly since, like the American 82nd and 101st, it is one of few paratroop formations of that era to have continued in title after World War II, allowing some comparisons in ...

  2. Aug 12, 2008 · Senior Member. In military terminology, a chalk is a specific aircraft load, especially a group of airborne soldiers which deploy from a single aircraft. A chalk often corresponds to a platoon sized unit for air-assault operations, or a company-minus sized organization for airborne operations. For air-transport operations, it can consist of up ...

  3. Aug 7, 2021 · It refers to the moment the plane is airborne. When organizing a military mission, that's the time set for take off and the beginning of the mission. Not all planes back then even had retractable (or fully retractable) landing gear. They still went wheels up when they left the runway. The mechanics of individual planes is not relevant in this context.

  4. Jul 30, 2009 · This sounds odd since planes fly above the ground and schools sit on the ground. Ergo, I don't think anybody would question whether any airborne aircraft in the area was above the school. Not all aircraft in the neighborhood can be assumed to fly over a school, however and thus "over our school" is a definitive statement.

  5. USA - English. Apr 16, 2009. #2. Apparently the infantry are the "legs". "Straight legs" are the ones that aren't airborne. From what I see online, only paratroopers would blouse their trouser legs at the tops of their boots. Non-airborne soldiers would wear theirs straight. Z.

By my understanding the 'air of Time' has taken on some of the taste of the sands as it is blown past them. The air is 'blown past' the sands by the wind; the wind moves it. (Of course, the wind is made up of air so they are about the same thing, but ...

  8. Oct 26, 2020 · English - U.S. Oct 26, 2020. #7. Off-gassing is a common word relating to various manufacturing industries. It's the release of airborne chemicals from the materials used. For instance, when a new house is built and it has that new house smell that's from the off-gassing of the paint and other building materials.

  9. Nov 9, 2022 · Wheels up is a term in airline parlance for the time the aircraft becomes airborne; literally, when the wheels lift up from the runway. However, another definition for wheels up time refers to when an aviation oversight body is expected to give takeoff clearance. One other meaning of wheels up could be when a plane is already in the air and the ...

  10. May 10, 2006 · May 11, 2006. #5. j0ckser said: it seems like an odd way of phrasing it. usually there is a timeframe prior to arrival to cancel so you don't have to pay a penalty. often the context will dictate the correctness of the phrase. e.g., you must cancel your reservation 24 hours prior to arrival or your credit card will be charged for the...
