  2. Mar 9, 2017 · Proof = incontrovertible evidence, is a concept: "These photographs and your fingerprints are proof that you were in the house." In this meaning, " proof " is uncountable - never plural. A proof - a formal, written, demonstration of the truth of a mathematical theory - is countable. Some claim: You definitely can say - I have a lot of proofs ...

  3. Jun 6, 2010 · Many thanks in advance, All my North American dictionaries and my university notes all indicate "proofreading" as one word. I have seen proof-reading but I don't think that is accepted as standard, at least in the US. The hyphenated version proof-reading seems to be used in the UK at times, and in some other countries such as Singapore.

Brownie points for cooperating, honesty points for not lying when we easily could have, etc. So going forward (in the future) we will have built proof points for delivering ROI (and ROI on ROI) consistently ...

So saying "it's not dummy proof" means "it's vulnerable to being messed up / broken by someone stupid." Tej is saying "don't touch that cable, because you don't know enough about it to prevent messing it up!"

  9. Feb 12, 2013 · The actual phrase is "Proof, if proof be needed". This means "What has just been said proves X but we don't really need proof of X because it is self-evident." If you search online for "Proof, if proof be needed" I'm sure you will find plenty of examples, e.g. "Oh, Madam Mina," he said, sadly, "it is proof, if proof be needed, of how I love and ...

  10. Nov 15, 2014 · Nov 15, 2014. #7. Biffo said: In fact 'proof' can be countable or uncountable depending on the context. There are proofs (countable) in printing and in mathematics for example.
