Ronald William George Barker OBE (25 September 1929 – 3 October 2005) was an English actor, comedian and writer. He was known for roles in British comedy television series such as Porridge, The Two Ronnies, and Open All Hours . Barker began acting in Oxford amateur dramatics while working as a bank clerk, having dropped out of higher education.

Oct 4, 2005 · Ronnie Barker, one of Britain’s best-loved comic actors and star of The Two Ronnies and Porridge, has died at the age of 76. The star’s agent said that Barker passed away “peacefully” at home yesterday afternoon after a long battle with heart disease.
