Put one of your pressure plate bolts into the flywheel (so the head is flush with the flywheel, but it doesn't need to be tight) Place a pry bar, pipe, or some other piece of metal between the bolt head and the ground. Turn the flywheel in the direction of engine rotation until it makes contact with your prop, and torque away!
Jun 21, 2019 · 5. Its probably not the fuseable link; more likely is that the starter motor needs to be shimmed. The starter motor has a small gear ( the pinion gear) which sticks out on a shaft to engage the flywheel. if the pinion gear doesn’t stick out far enough, it will spin but not turn the flywheel. The starter will test fine on the bench.

Without knowing what the engine belongs to (year/make/model), we are going to be hard pressed to tell you if there'd be an issue or not. Every engine is different (by make/model/year), therefore the needs of the engine will be different.
May 31, 2017 · The mechanism to engage the flywheel is faulty, probably it is seized, or battery doesn't have enough power to make the solenoid fully pull the mechanism (check battery charge). Hit the solenoid "moderately" with a mechanic hammer, one or two dry blows, if next crank try works, then the mechanism is getting seized and needs maintenance.

Summit Racing offers a (Performance Tool Flywheel Turners W80510) for under $20. For it to work you have to have a removable cover that allows access to the bottom of the flywheel. I have a similar tool and it works well although it can get tough to turn once the cylinder pressure builds up.
