I know I can simply use Whatsapp Web, but probably the biggest advantage for having it in the sidebar is that I can get the notification there and it's easier to spot them since I have the browser opened all of the time.

Aug 6, 2017 · If I remember correctly, you have to add a panel with the URL web.whatsapp.com, "Show Desktop Version" and then reload the panel (right-click inside of it and choose "Reload").
