Bishop Wordsworth’s School was founded in 1890 by John Wordsworth, Bishop of Salisbury. When he established the school his intention was that it should be a centre for education right at the very heart of Salisbury, in what is probably the most beautiful Cathedral Close in Europe.

Bishop Wordsworth's School. John Wordsworth (Founder) John Wordsworth was born at Harrow-on-the-Hill, the grandson of the youngest brother of the poet William Wordsworth. He was born into a clerical family, his grandfather being Master of Trinity College, Cambridge and his father was Bishop of Lincoln.
After Bishop Wordsworth's death in 1911, the school was renamed to Bishop Wordsworth's School to continue the lasting tradition of quality education that he had started. In July 1892 the school adopted its first Science Specialism(!) and as a result the Chemistry Lab was equipped that year too.
