The zulfiqar was one of the 7 (or 9) swords of the Prophet. He came into its possession either by taking it from a conquered enemy at the battle of Badr (624 AD) or by receiving it from the archangel Gabriel. Prophet Mohammad gave the sword to Ali in some other battle (like the battle of Uhud 625).

Zulfiqar was the name given to the legendary sword of Prophet Muhammad which was used by his cousin and son-in-law Ali Ibn Abi Talib during the battle of Uhud. It had a peculiar shape as the long blade bifurcated into two ends.
