Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 69, No. 1, is a waltz composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1835. It was posthumously published by his friend Julian Fontana in 1855, six years after the composer’s death, together with the earlier composed Waltz Op. 69, No. 2. It is also called "The Farewell Waltz" or "Valse de l'adieu".
The Farewell Waltz (Czech: Valčík na rozloučenou) is a Czech-language novel by Milan Kundera published in 1972. A French edition was published in 1976 and an English version entitled The Farewell Party.

Many of Chopin’s waltzes are nicknamed these decorous names like “The Grand Waltz” or “The Minute Waltz,” but this Waltz in A♭ Major (“The Farewell Waltz”) is as intriguing as the man himself.
Also known as The Farewell Waltz (or Valse de l'adieu in French), this piece was a real good-bye piece to Chopin’s ex-fiancée, Maria Wodzińska, whom his parents disapproved of.
