The Eurasian skylark (Alauda arvensis) is a passerine bird in the lark family, Alaudidae. It is a widespread species found across Europe and the Palearctic with introduced populations in Australia, New Zealand and on the Hawaiian Islands.
History. Our brand name “Skylark” comes from the image of the skylark bird flying high into the clear blue sky. Our predecessor company, Kotobuki Foods Ltd. started in 1962 in Hoya-Shi (currently Nishitokyo-shi) as a small dry food store in the corner of the Hibarigaoka (translated as skylark) Housing Complex.
The Skylark is a small brown bird, larger than a sparrow but smaller than a starling. It is streaky brown with a small crest – which can be raised when the bird is excited or alarmed – and a white-sided tail.
The sexes are alike in the plumage, but males are slightly larger. Skylarks usually range in size from 18-19 cm. They have a wing-span of 30-36 cm. Females of the species can weight 17-47 g, while males can weigh 27-55 g. Their bills are short but strong.
The Skylark is a rather non-descript bird, most easily confused with the Woodlark. What do Skylarks look like? Skylarks are highly camouflaged little birds with brownish upper parts and pale underparts.
