He was the driving force in the creation of the Center for Molecular Biology in Heidelberg, a visionary institution that served as a model for other institutions subsequently built in Germany, such as the Gene Center in Munich and the Center for Molecular Neurology in Hamburg.

Heinz Schaller (* 1. Februar 1932 in Lörrach; † 10. April 2010) war ein deutscher Molekularbiologe und Virologe. Er war Professor an der Universität Heidelberg und dort 1982 einer der Gründer des Zentrums für Molekulare Biologie Heidelberg (ZMBH). Er ist außerdem Mitgründer von Biogen (1978).
