Over the course of years, Elaine Despins’ professional international career in animation (directing, character design and animating) has been interspersed with periods of intense passion for and activity in drawing and painting. Since 2000, she has been committed to an independent and full time studio practice.

As we face a ‘crisis of art’, and an art culture strewn with commodities, Elaine’s project of undoing the mysteries of existence are not to be underestimated. Simply, Elaine questions our purpose here— and by association her own purpose as an artist.
Elaine Despins completed her European, Berlin based, master’s degree in fine arts and new media arts in the summer of 2010. Her studio practice encompasses oil painting, charcoal drawing and pastel.
In her latest exhibition, Quebec artist Élaine Despins takes on this daunting challenge with audacity and impressive self-assurance. A boldly figurative artist, Despins has an established career under her belt, and a recognizable painterly style bolstered by exquisite execution.
Elaine Despins received an international, Berlin based MFA in 2010. Her work has been exhibited across Canada and US and can be found in private and corporate collections.
