Yuriy Eduardovich Dumchev (Russian: Юрий Эдуардович Думчев; 5 August 1958 – 10 February 2016) was a Russian track and field athlete for the Soviet Union, who set the world record in the men's discus throw on 29 May 1983 with a distance of 71.86 metres.
Feb 10, 2016 · The IAAF is saddened to hear that former world discus record-holder Yuriy Dumchev died on Wednesday (10) at the age of 57 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Born on 5 August 1958 in the Russian town of Rossosh, Dumchev took up athletics at the age of 16 while at boarding school in Moscow.
Biography. Yury Dumchev was selected to the Soviet national team after winning gold at the 1977 European Championships. During his career, which lasted until 1988, Dumchev competed at two Olympic Games, finishing fifth in 1980 and fourth in 1988, and at the 1983 World Championships, where he did not advance past qualifying.
