Janica Kostelić (Croatian pronunciation: [janitsa kostelitɕ]; born 5 January 1982) is a Croatian former alpine ski racer. She is a four-time Olympic gold medalist. In addition to the Olympics, she won five gold medals at the World Championships.

Born in Zagreb, Croatia, on Jan. 5th, 1982, Janica Kostelić grew up into a winter sports family, Kostelić's father Ante was also her trainer and older brother Ivica is a ski racer in his own right, the 2011 overall World Cup champion.
Biography. Humble beginnings. Janica Kostelic travelled with her family as she competed on the junior ski circuit in Europe, Not having enough money to stay in hotels, they slept in tents and in their car. Breakthrough. Aged just 16, Kostelic competed in the 1998 Nagano Winter Games.
