Edison Vasilievich Denisov (Russian: Эдисо́н Васи́льевич Дени́сов, 6 April 1929 – 24 November 1996) was a Russian composer in the so-called "Underground", "alternative" or "nonconformist" division of Soviet music.
Edison Denisov (1929-1996) is one of the most significant representatives of contemporary Russian music.
Edison Denisov taught orchestration and composition at the Moscow Conservatory for almost forty years, between 1959 and 1996, and is the only one of his generation to form a real composition school in Russia, a role in which he is comparable to Olivier Messiaen in France.

His father was an engineer and his mother a doctor. He studied mathematics, before moving, encouraged by Shostakovich, to the Moscow Conservatory in 1951.
