It is reported that the cinematographer-actor was battling age-related diseases for the past couple of weeks. B Kannan is survived by his wife Kanchana and two daughters, Madhumathi and Janani.

His best known works were Oru Nadigai Natakam Parkiral (1978), Kadalora Kavithaigal (1986) and Solla Thudikuthu Manasu (1988).
