The Juilliard School (/ ˈ dʒ uː l i. ɑːr d / JOO-lee-ard) [5] is a private performing arts conservatory in New York City. Founded by Frank Damrosch as the Institute of Musical Art in 1905, the school later added dance and drama programs and became the Juilliard School, named after its principal benefactor Augustus D. Overview. Highly gifted musicians with undergraduate degrees or diplomas, but who are not seeking a full Master of Music degree, can apply for the 1-year Graduate Diploma program. The Music Division accepts a total of approximately 150 instrumentalists and vocalists into the program every year.
Juilliard dancers have the ability to speak many dance languages and are grounded in ballet, modern, and contemporary techniques. They are also creative thought leaders who can deconstruct those techniques and develop their own original artistic voices to answer challenging questions through music, movement, and scholarly exploration.
The Juilliard School offers In-Person and Virtual Campus Tours free of charge to prospective applicants (students applying to a college program within the next 2-3 years). Participants must register in advance. All tours are given in English, last approximately one hour, and are led by current Juilliard students.
