Overview. 'Pleasantly plump' teenager Tracy Turnblad achieves her dream of becoming a regular on the Corny Collins Dance Show. Now a teen hero, she starts using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of all integration.
John Waters’ “Hairspray” is a movie about that time and those kids and the sinking feeling. It takes place in 1962 in Baltimore, where a program known as “The Corny Collins Show” is at the center of many local teenage fantasies.
Synopsis. Set in 1960's Baltimore, a comedy about a heavy-set teen who, against expectations, realizes her dream of becoming a dancer on a TV show. Once in the limelight she uses the forum as a way to express her beliefs in integration, only to clash heads with the shows ex-star and her parents.
