Der Postmeister (English: The Postmaster or The Stationmaster) is a 1940 Austrian-German film directed by Gustav Ucicky. Released during the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, it depicts Russians in a sympathetic light, unlike their depiction in such films as Frisians in Peril before or GPU after.
Der Postmeister ist ein deutscher Spielfilm von Gustav Ucicky aus dem Jahr 1940. Der Film entstand sehr frei nach der Novelle Der Postmeister von Alexander Puschkin. Die Titelrolle ist mit Heinrich George besetzt, Hilde Krahl ist als Dunja zu sehen, Siegfried Breuer als Rittmeister Minskij und Hans Holt als Fähnrich Mitja.
Als der alte Postmeister Gerüchte vom Lotterleben seiner Tochter hört, macht er sich auf den Weg nach Sankt Petersburg. Sollten die Gerüchte wahr sein, will er seine Tochter und den Rittmeister umbringen.

Overview. When two Russian captains of cavalry came to a German post station one of them recalls what happened long time ago. He begins to tell the story: Ten years ago a comrade of them made a resting at the post station and fell in love with the station master's daughter.
