Khaleda Zia, in full Khaleda Zia ur-Rahman, née Khaleda Majumdar, (born August 15, 1945, Dinājpur, East Bengal, India [now in Bangladesh]), Bangladeshi politician who served as prime minister of Bangladesh in 1991–96 and 2001–06.
Following his assassination in 1981, Khaleda Zia entered politics, and in 1984 she became Chair of the Bangladesh National Party, which her husband had founded. She became the first female Prime Minister, and the first to see out a full term of office.
