The father of Christiaan Hendrik Persoon came out to the Cape in 1 748 in the service of the Dutch East India Company as a tailor and nine years after his arrival in the Colony married Elisabeth Groenewald of Ida’s Valley, Stellenbosch. On 31 December 1 762 Christiaan Hendrik was born.
