Oct 13, 2023 · Microsoft has closed its $68.7 billion deal to buy the publisher of Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo. The deal faces legal challenges from regulators in the US and UK, but Microsoft plans to add Activision Blizzard games to Xbox Game Pass.
Jan 18, 2022 · Microsoft will acquire Activision Blizzard for $95.00 per share, in an all-cash transaction valued at $68.7 billion, inclusive of Activision Blizzard’s net cash. When the transaction closes, Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony.
With it, Microsoft gained ownership of several franchises under Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, and King, including Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Overwatch, and Candy Crush. As of 2023, the acquisition is the largest video game acquisition by transaction value in history.
