Kabir (8 June 1398–1518 CE) [2] : 14–15 was a well-known Indian mystic poet and sant. His verses are found in Sikhism's scripture Guru Granth Sahib, the Satguru Granth Sahib of Saint Garib Das, [3] and Kabir Sagar of Dharamdas. [4] [5] [6] Today, Kabir is an important figure in Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam, especially in Sufism.
Kabir (born 1440, Varanasi, Jaunpur, India—died 1518, Maghar) was an iconoclastic Indian poet-saint revered by Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs. The birth of Kabir remains shrouded in mystery and legend. One tradition holds that he was born in 1398, which would have made him 120 years old at his death. It is also uncertain who his parents were.
Saint Kabir's Dohe (दोहे) is full of meaning and teachings. He believed God is one and people just worship him with different names and nicknames. Kabir has written the famous Dohe in Hindi. Kabir's poems were in vernacular Hindi, borrowing from various dialects including Awadhi, Braj, and Bhojpuri.
