It has published 120 limited-edition books, most printed by letterpress, often illustrated with original prints by notable artists. The Minneapolis Star Tribune described it as "the nation's leading publisher of fine-press books".
The Arion Press edition of Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, handset and printed in a folio edition on handmade paper, with 100 wood engravings by Barry Moser, has been hailed as “a modern masterpiece of bookmaking” (University of California Press).
