Controlling. Definition: Control is a primary goal-oriented function of management in an organisation. It is a process of comparing the actual performance with the set standards of the company to ensure that activities are performed according to the plans and if not then taking corrective action.
Control is installing processes to guide the team towards goals and monitoring performance towards goals (Batemen & Snell, 2013). The purpose of the control function is to ensure that the organization makes progress towards the established goals.
After strategies are set and plans are made, management’s primary task is to take steps to ensure that these plans are carried out, or, if conditions warrant, that the plans are modified. This is the critical control function of management.
