Prelude is an operational floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, located offshore, north-north east of Broome, in Western Australia. Prelude FLNG is designed to extract, liquefy and store natural gas at sea, before it is transferred and shipped to customers.
FLNG technology offers countries a more environmentally-sensitive way to develop natural gas resources. Prelude will have a much smaller environmental footprint than land-based LNG plants, which require major infrastructure works.

24 Jan 2019 · The Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project marks the deployment of Shell’s FLNG technology for the first time. The project included the construction of an FLNG facility, which is being used to develop Shell’s Prelude and Concerto gas fields, situated in the Browse Basin, offshore Western Australia.
Prelude is now a live and operating FLNG facility. With gas onboard, Prelude’s utilities can switch to run on gas rather than diesel. To import LNG, Prelude used the LNG export system, in reverse. 1.
11 Jun 2019 · The Prelude FLNG facility will produce 3.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG. The Prelude FLNG facility is operated by Shell in joint venture with INPEX (17.5%), KOGAS (10%) and OPIC (5%).
