Cēsis (Latvian pronunciation: [tseːsis] ⓘ), (‹See Tfd› German: Wenden, Livonian: Venden, Estonian: Võnnu, Polish: Kieś) is a town in Latvia located in the northern part of the Central Vidzeme Upland. Cēsis is on the Gauja River valley, and is built on a series of ridges above the river, overlooking the woods below.

Cesis Medieval Castle. View more. Cēsis Medieval Castle is located in the heart of the city, next to Livonian castle ruins and several parks. By entering the castle, one becomes a medieval knight or lady and can hone one’s skills in archery or in forging jewellery.
It took us a couple of hours to visit the castle and go through the manor and then we had a picnic in the nearby park by the pond. The Cesis Manor has a tower which you can go to the top of and provides very good views of the city and the castle. We really enjoyed our visit to Cesis and the Gauja National Park.
