Hussein and Suhaila had six children, including their fourth child, Hishammuddin Hussein, who is a senior UMNO politician since the 1990s. Their eldest daughter, Datin Roquaiya Hanim (born 1950), died on 17 September 2006 from breast cancer .
Hishammuddin was born on 5 August 1961, the fourth child and the eldest son of Hussein Onn, who became the third Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Suhaila Noah. He is the grandson of Onn Jaafar , a prominent Malay leader and the founder of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), whose mother was a Circassian and born in the Ottoman Empire .
Hussein, who was in the Indian army, strengthened ties with China which were renewed by his predecessor Tun Razak, who was also his brother–in–law. Hussein’s son, Hishammuddin, is the current Umno Youth chief and education minister.
Hussein Onn was born on 12 February 1922 in Johor Bahru, British Malaya (now Malaysia) as the son of Dato' Onn Jaafar. His father was the founder of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the largest political party in Malaysia.
On 17 September 2005, Datin Roquiaya passed away at the age of 56 from breast cancer. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Dato’ Ghazi Ishak, also a lawyer, three sons and three grandchildren.
Hishammuddin merupakan anak kepada Tun Hussein Onn, Perdana Menteri Malaysia ke-3 dan cucu kepada Onn Jaafar, pengasas UMNO dan pejuang kemerdekaan Malaya. [3] Beliau mendapat pendidikan awal di Sek. Ren. St. John's Kuala Lumpur dan Kolej Melayu Kuala Kangsar sebelum ayahnya dilantik menjadi Timbalan Perdana Menteri pada 1973.
Hussein Onn menerima pendidikan awalnya di Telok Kurau School Singapura, kini Telok Kurau Primary School (Sekolah Rendah Telok Kurau) dan di English College (kini Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar), Johor Bahru.
