Hussein Onn menghembuskan nafas terakhir pada hari Selasa, 29 Mei 1990, sewaktu berumur 68 tahun di Pusat Perubatan Seaton, San Francisco, Amerika Syarikat kerana serangan sakit jantung dan disemadikan pada hari Jumaat di Makam Pahlawan, Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
Tun Hussein bin Dato' Onn (Jawi: حسين بن عون; 12 February 1922 – 29 May 1990) was a Malaysian lawyer and politician who served as the third Prime Minister of Malaysia from the death of his predecessor Abdul Razak Hussein in 1976 to his retirement in 1981.
Tun Hussein Onn telah dilahirkan pada 12 Februari 1922 di Johor Bahru. Beliau merupakan anak sulung kepada Dato’ Onn Jaafar, dan Datin Halimah Hussein. Beliau menerima pendidikan awal di Singapura, dan kemudiannya di English College, Johor Bahru (kini dikenali sebagai Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar).

The epithet by which Tun Hussein is known – Father of Unity – reminds all of us of the importance of unity in a multi-racial country such as Malaysia. As we march toward 2020 we need to realize that the vision that we have set for ourselves can never be achieved without unity.
