The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of intergalactic mercenaries who primarily defend the Andromeda galaxy. The team was founded in 2014 when Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax the Destroyer assembled to save Xandar from being decimated by Ronan the Accuser.
Not willing to let a third major conflict tear the galaxies apart, Star-Lord put together a team of those space heroes to prevent threats from getting out of hand, officially forming the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy, American superhero team created for Marvel Comics by writer Arnold Drake and artist Gene Colan. The group debuted in Marvel Super-Heroes no. 18 (January 1969). The modern team was created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, no. 1 (May 2008).
