Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (CPA), more widely known as Cathay Pacific (Chinese: 國泰航空), is the flag carrier of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with its head office and main hub located at Hong Kong International Airport.
American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow founded Cathay Pacific Airways on 24 September, 1946. Initially based in Shanghai, the two men eventually moved to Hong Kong and established the airline.
On 21 September 1998, Cathay Pacific, together with American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, and Qantas, co-founded Oneworld airline alliance. Cathay Pacific recorded a record HK$5 billion profit in 2000.
History of Cathay Pacific Airways. Cathay Pacific was founded in Hong Kong by Roy Farrell and Sydney de Kantzow in late September, 1946. Initially based in Shanghai, the airline soon moved to Hong Kong and started operations with a single Douglas DC-3, nicknamed Betsy.
