  1. David Novitz was born in Oudtshoorn, South Africa, on 4 March 1945. He studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown and Linacre College in Oxford. He joined the Department of Philosophy of the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, in late 1971 and worked there until his death.
