The Salvation Army in Malaysia has a range of corps (churches) and social service programmes that provide both spiritual guidance and practical assistance to people in need.
As a Christian organisation, The Salvation Army's mission is both spiritual and practical. Our social services are provided to all people, regardless of race or religion. The Salvation Army's work began in Malaysia on the island of Penang in 1938.
The Salvation Army began work in Malaysia (then Malaya) in 1938 when Adjutant & Mrs Frederick W. Harvey were appointed to Penang. They started their ministries at a former YMCA building and learnt to speak Malay.
The Salvation Army Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory was established on 1 March 2005 to serve those in need to the best of our abilities. The work in each country commenced much earlier, with Myanmar in 1915, Singapore in 1935 and Malaysia in 1938.
