The Chin people (Burmese: ချင်းလူမျိုး; MLCTS: hkyang: lu. myui:, pronounced [tɕɪ́ɰ̃ lù mjó]) are an ethnic group native to the Chin State and Rakhine State of Myanmar. Strictly speaking, the term "Chin" only refers to the 53 sub-tribes of the Chin ethnic group, divided and recognized by the Burmese government.

The result has been persistent underdevelopment, and many people have left Chin State, often as refugees.
Chin State is one of the least developed regions in Myanmar. It has the highest poverty rates of all states and regions. Close to six in 10 people live below the poverty line. A 2015 survey found almost 80 per cent of households had poor or borderline food security.
