In Windows computers, DirectX is usually the best choice. It's a Microsoft product. The choice in Google Earth is in Tools>Option>3D View.
Simply download the full installer and everything is fine. If I were google and I wanted people to use my product, I'd assign a developer to looking into why this is happening. I don't know the details. Why don't you look there and at some of the Youtube videos. A search in the forum might get results.
