El Dorado is situated along the western bank of the Walnut River, southwest of El Dorado Lake. It is located 30 miles (48 km) east-northeast of Wichita at the junction of U.S. Routes 54 and 77 and K-254. The Kansas Turnpike, designated as Interstate 35, bypasses northwest of the city.

A nice state park to stop at if driving along the KS Turnpike between Wichita & Kansas City. For locals, it is a close relaxing getaway. Cost would need to include small fee for vehicle and campsite in addition to site fee since it is a state park and if staying for a lot of days in state parks in KS, the annual fee is worthwhile.
