Invercargill (/ ˌɪnvərˈkɑːrɡɪl / IN-vər-KAR-ghil, Māori: Waihōpai)[3] is the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and one of the southernmost cities in the world. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region.
New Zealand’s southernmost city was founded in the 1850’s and with a population in excess of approximately 60,000, Invercargill is the capital of Southland. From a visitor’s point of view, Invercargill is well-equipped with an excellent range of shops and a selection of lively bars and restaurants.

Oct 31, 2023 · Invercargill is a massive motorsport destination, mostly thanks to Burt Munro (played by Anthony Hopkins in The World’s Fastest Indian). There are several transport museums as well as other more general ones and some art galleries. We’re not really into motorsport (loved the movie though) and didn’t want to pay for museums we weren’t interested in.
