Los Angeles selected the 22-year-old with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 Draft out of the University of Virginia. He was the second New Jersey native drafted in the first round by the Angels, after Michael Trout in 2009.
Thaiss is drawing trade interest from other clubs, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Thaiss is certainly more interesting now that he's shown he can catch capably, although he fell off dramatically at the dish in the second half in 2023 with a .505 OPS after putting up a .745 OPS prior to the All-Star break.
