In 1969, Lee and Anna Strasberg founded The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute to train and nurture present and future generations of aspiring actors. The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute® is one cohesive school, founded by Lee Strasberg with the same educational mission and the same high standard of actor training. Both campuses teach Lee Strasberg’s Method in its purest form and offer the same core classes. Elective classes, however, will vary at each campus and are subject to change.
METHOD ACTING. At the core of the Strasberg curriculum are the Method Acting classes. Students are required to take two Method Acting classes per 10- or 12-week term, each with a different teacher. These classes are designed to train the actor in Lee Strasberg’s systematic approach to acting, known throughout the world as The Method.
The curriculum at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, designed by Lee, provides the actor with opportunities to pursue his or her work systematically and to gain firsthand knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the Lee Strasberg Method Acting Technique. Through class work, seminars, exercises, scene work, and discussions, students are encouraged to develop of their art and themselves.
The One Year Conservatory follows the same course of study as the first nine months of the Two Year Conservatory. With 22 hours of classes per week, this program emphasizes the fundamental aspects of The Method while ensuring concentrated but broad-based instruction in voice, movement, and theatre history.
