Jan 23, 2023 · PETALING JAYA: Toh Puan Mahani Idris, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, passed away on Sunday night (Jan 22). “It is with a heavy heart that we inform all that Mami (Mahani) has peacefully returned to God almighty,” a source close to the family said, quoted by Astro Awani. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Daim Zainuddin was recalled to public service during the Asian Financial Crisis. On 5 May 2018, Daim was sacked from UMNO together with party veterans; Rafidah Aziz and Rais Yatim for supporting Mahathir Mohamad and the opposition, Pakatan Harapan (PH).
