In severe PCP infection, intravenous cotrimoxazole, 20 mg trimethoprim and 100 mg sulphamethoxazole/kg/day (diluted 1:25 in 0.9% saline or 5% dextrose) should be given for 14 days. In patients with severe PCP infection, a short course of steroids can be used together with the cotrimoxazole.
