Jun 9, 2015 · Burying the Ex delivers a simple story with only a backdrop of horror nostalgia to keep diehard horror fans happy. The last directorial release for Dante was back in 2009 and I was really rooting for him to deliver, but Burying the Ex blends in with the rest of the horror rom-coms and is easily forgettable.
May 1, 2015 · Burying the Ex was originally produced as a 15-minute short in 2008, written and directed by Alan Trezza. It starred Danielle Harris as Olivia and Mircea Monroe as Evelyn, with the male lead (then named Zak) played by John Francis Daley. Trezza later expanded the short into a feature film script.
Essentially made to be shown to that one friend of yours that needs to see it, Burying the Ex is an entertaining lowbrow genre metaphor and not much else. The dearly missed Anton Yelchin's charm and Joe Dante's involvement make this middle-of-the-road zomcom an enjoyable, occasionally funny, and frequently derivative time-killer worth the watch.
