In 1977, 5-year-old Pete Healy and his parents are on a road trip when their car flips off the road following a near-collision with a deer. Pete's parents die but Pete survives and is chased into the forest by a wolf pack. A huge green dragon with wings and yellow eyes saves him, and boy and dragon quickly bond.
