Big Beach — aka Oneloa or Makena Beach— stand as a destination hotspot for its beauty, located in south Maui, only minutes from Wailea and Kihei. This pristine but raw beach is decorated at the back by sinewy Kiawe trees flourishing in sandy dunes.
Big Beach is as 3,000 ft long stretch of soft and near water pounded sand with shade trees back of the hundred foot wide sand beach. Great place to swim, snorkel and boogie board. The breakers can get high with undertow at certain times.
The crowning glory of Makena State Park, this untouched beach is arguably the finest on Maui. In Hawaiian it’s called Oneloa, literally ‘Long Sand.’. And indeed the golden sands stretch for the better part of a mile and are as broad as they come. The waters are a beautiful turquoise.

Mar 26, 2015 · Often voted the #1 beach in Maui, Big Beach has captured the hearts of those lucky enough to experience it. Makena Beach is huge and offers perfect white sand, turquoise water and gorgeous scenery. As far as tropical paradise goes, you won’t find much better.
One of the most outstanding beaches in Maui. Big Beach is well over a half a mile long, and is also uncharacteristically wide by Maui standards. That means loads of real estate to stake out your claim, and this beach, while always drawing lots of people – is never so crowded as to be packed.
