Not to take anything away from Mad Max but Blade Runner had the entire world and the history of the genre working against it. Lol not even the actors understood what Miller was going for. Long, troubled production.

In 2049, with rising ocean tides, and entire cities cleared out either by radiation (Vegas) or converted into giant landfills (San Diego), Earth is 30 years closer to death.

Aug 8, 2024 · It's an excellent movie, a great sequel, and perfectly suited for a cinema experience. The first one was too. They took too massive of a risk with the budget if the goal was to maximize profit (or make any). Having said that, for posterity it's amazing and if you're not a myopic Hollywood exec, these risks are worth it just for that.
