RoboCop is a 1987 science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven. Set in crime-ridden Detroit, Michigan, in the near future, RoboCop centers on a police officer named Alex J. Murphy who is murdered brutally by a vicious gang and subsequently re-created as a cyborg known as RoboCop.
Called by Ken Russell “the greatest science-fiction film since Metropolis,” controversial director Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop is a special effects-laden cult phenomenon. The film features a resurrected and roboticized hero (Peter Weller) in a new, supercharged cyborg body, struggling to reclaim his memory and avenge his own death.
