  6. Mar 20, 2013 · 2013-03-20 - A FORMER RAF pilot took off from a Yorkshire base for a “pleasure” flight with his pilot son – 50 years to the day since he took his first solo flight there. Rod Dean, now 68, joined the Royal Air Force in 1962 and completed his first solo flight on March 19 1963 in a Jet Provost from RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.
